THIS BULLETIN IS BEING ISSUED TO ADD THE 1998 MODEL YEAR, ADDITIONAL PART NUMBERS, ARTWORK AND REPAIR PROCEDURES. PLEASE DISCARD CORPORATE BULLETIN NUMBER 73-15-09 (SECTION 10 - BODY). ______________________________________________________________________
THIS BULLETIN CONTAINS INFORMATION ON SEVERAL CONDITIONS:
CONDITION #1:
SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT THAT AT SPEEDS OF 50 MPH (80 KM/H) AND ABOVE, AN INTERMITTENT TYPE "HISS" NOISE CAN BE HEARD AT THE "A" PILLAR OR MIRROR AREA. DURING DIAGNOSIS, THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE DRIVEN AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND DIRECTION BECAUSE THE CONDITION IS SOMETIMES DIFFICULT TO REPRODUCE.
THIS CONDITION MAY BE DUE TO AIR TURBULENCE AROUND THE MIRROR STYLING HOLE CAUSING THE OUTER BELT SEAL TO VIBRATE.
DO NOT CHANGE THE MIRROR FOR WINDNOISE OR WINDRUSH CONDITIONS IF THE MIRROR HAS A STYLING RIB ON THE BOTTOM OF THE MIRROR. NO OTHER CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE MIRROR AFTER THE STYLING RIB OR AFTER VIN 202946.
1. PRIOR TO ANY MIRROR REPAIR, THE OUTER BELT SEALING STRIP SHOULD BE TAPED TO THE GLASS AND THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE TEST DRIVEN TO VERIFY THAT THIS CORRECTS THE CONDITION.
2. REPLACE THE MIRROR AND SIDE DOOR BELT REVEAL MOLDING. THE NEW MIRROR HAS A RIB BUILT INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE MIRROR TO DIVERT AIR FLOW (SEE FIGURE 1) AND THE WINDOW S/D BELT REVEAL MOLDING HAS A TALLER WEATHERSTRIP LIP (SEE FIGURE 2).
CONDITION #2:
SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON ROAD NOISE.
THIS CONDITION MAY BE DUE TO A GAP BETWEEN THE FRONT DOOR GLASS AND INNER BELT SEALING STRIP WITH THE GLASS IN THE FULL UP POSITION.
REMOVE DOOR TRIM AND INNER BELT SEALING STRIP. SLIGHTLY BEND THE INNER BELT SEAL RETAINING FLANGE OUTBOARD. REINSTALL THE SEAL ON THE FLANGE AND TRY TO SLIDE A BUSINESS CARD BETWEEN THE GLASS AND THE SEAL. A SLIGHT DRAG SHOULD BE FELT.
CONDITION #3:
SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON WINDNOISE AT THE TOP OF THE DOOR.
THIS CONDITION MAY BE DUE TO THE WINDOW RUN CHANNEL LIP BEING TUCKED UNDER THE GLASS (SEE FIGURE 3).
REPLACE THE RUN CHANNEL. SEE FIGURE 3 FOR CORRECT WEATHERSTRIP POSITION.
CONDITION #4:
SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON WINDNOISE AROUND THE DOOR FRAME.
CAUSE 1:
THIS CONDITION MAY BE DUE TO LACK OF RUN CHANNEL RETENTION.
CAUSE 2:
THE WINDOW RUN CHANNEL GARNISH LIP MAY BUNCH UP (SEE FIGURE 4).
CORRECTION 1:
PULL DOWN ON THE RUN CHANNEL TO REMOVE IT FROM THE HEM FLANGE ON THE DOOR. APPLY SOME WEATHERSTRIP ADHESIVE IN THE CARRIER AND REINSTALL WEATHERSTRIP. TAPE WEATHERSTRIP TO BODY UNTIL SET.
CORRECTION 2:
REPLACE THE WINDOW RUN CHANNEL.
CONDITION #5:
SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON WINDNOISE IN THE UPPER REAR CORNER OR IN THE UPPER FRONT CORNER BY THE MIRROR.
THIS CONDITION MAY BE CAUSED BY THE RUN CHANNEL BUNCHING UP AND CAUSING AN AIR PATH AROUND THE GLASS (SEE FIGURES 5 & 6).
REPLACE THE RUN CHANNEL.
CONDITION #6:
SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON WINDNOISE IN THE UPPER REAR CORNER OF THE DOOR.
THIS CONDITION MAY BE CAUSED BY THE WINDOW RUN CHANNEL HAVING NO CONTACT TO THE GLASS IN THE UPPER REAR CORNER DUE TO A MOLD PARTING LINE (SEE FIGURE 7).
REPLACE WINDOW RUN CHANNEL.
CONDITION #7:
SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON GAPS IN THE WINDSHIELD REVEAL MOLDING TO THE ROOF PANEL CAUSING WINDRUSH.
THIS CONDITION MAY BE CAUSED BY THE WINDSHIELD BEING INSTALLED EITHER TOO HIGH (MOLDING GAPPED TO THE ROOF PANEL) OR TOO LOW (MOLDING GAPPED AT THE WINDSHIELD OPENING AT THE ROOF).
REMOVE THE WINDSHIELD AND REINSTALL WITH A NEW REVEAL MOLDING, USING THE EXTENDED (OR FULL CUT) REPLACEMENT METHOD.
CONDITION #8:
SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT THAT THE QUARTER GLASS MOLDING MAY BE GAPPED TO THE BODY OPENINGS WHICH MAY CAUSE WINDRUSH.
THIS CONDITION MAY BE DUE TO THE QUARTER GLASS BEING IMPROPERLY POSITIONED.
REMOVE AND REINSTALL THE QUARTER GLASS USING THE EXTENDED (OR FULL CUT) REPLACEMENT METHOD.
CONDITION #9:
SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON GAPS IN THE REAR WINDOW REVEAL MOLDING TO THE BODY PANELS CAUSING WINDRUSH.
THIS CONDITION MAY BE DUE TO THE BACK GLASS BEING IMPROPERLY INSTALLED IN THE BODY OPENING.
REMOVE THE BACK GLASS AND REINSTALL WITH A NEW REVEAL MOLDING, USING THE EXTENDED (OR FULL CUT) REPLACEMENT METHOD.
CONDITION #10:
SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON A SLIGHT WINDNOISE AT THE TOP SECTION OF THE DOOR GLASS.
THIS CONDITION MAY BE DUE TO LIGHT DOOR GLASS CONTACT TO THE WEATHERSTRIP AT THE TOP OF THE DOOR GLASS.
1. REMOVE TRIM PANEL AND WATER DEFLECTOR.
2. LOOSEN THE REGULATOR TO DOOR GLASS BOLTS.
3. ROTATE CAM ON WINDOW REGULATOR PLATE SO SCREWDRIVER SLOT IS STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN. IN THIS LOCATION, THE BACK OF THE GLASS WILL TILT FORWARD.
4. TIGHTEN REGULATOR TO DOOR GLASS BOLTS TO 10 N.M (89 LB IN), (SEE FIGURE 8).
CONDITION #11:
SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT THAT THE WINDOWS (FRONT DOOR GLASS) OPERATE SLOWLY WHEN GOING UP OR DOWN.
THIS CONDITION MAY BE DUE TO MISALIGNED REGULATOR AND DOOR GLASS.
1. REMOVE TRIM PANEL AND WATER DEFLECTOR.
2. LOOSEN THE REGULATOR TO DOOR GLASS BOLTS.
3. ROTATE CAM ON WINDOW REGULATOR PLATE SO SCREWDRIVER SLOT IS STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN. IN THIS LOCATION, THE BACK OF THE GLASS WILL TILT FORWARD.
4. TIGHTEN REGULATOR TO DOOR GLASS BOLTS TO 10 N.M (89 LB IN), (SEE FIGURE 8).
