The Magnetic Steering Variable Assist (MSVA), also known as MAGNASTEER® incorporates its controller into the Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module (EBTCM). The EBTCM controls the amount of current supplied to the MAGNASTEER® actuator based on input from the Antilock Brake System (ABS) wheel speed sensors.
The MAGNASTEER® actuator or one or both of the MAGNASTEER® actuator circuit wires becomes open or shorted.
• | A Malfunction DTC is stored. |
• | No Antilock Brake System (ABS)/Traction Control System (TCS) indicator lamps are turned ON. |
• | The MAGNASTEER® is disabled. |
The ABS/TCS remains functional.
• | A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles if the condition for the malfunction is no longer present. |
• | You may use a scan tool in order to clear the DTC. |
• | The following conditions may cause an intermittent malfunction to occur: |
- | A poor connection |
- | A rubbed-through wire insulation |
- | A broken wire inside the insulation |
• | Inspect the frequency of the malfunction by using the enhanced diagnostic function of the scan tool. Refer to Enhanced Diagnostics . |
• | Inspect any circuitry that may cause the intermittent complaint for the following conditions: |
- | Backed out terminals |
- | Improper mating |
- | Broken locks |
- | Improperly formed terminals |
- | Damaged terminals |
- | Poor terminal to wiring connections |
- | Physical damage to the wiring harness |
The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table.
This step tests for an open or high resistance in the Magnasteer® circuit.
This step determines if the open or high resistance is in the Magnasteer® actuator, or the wiring harness.
This step tests if the Magnasteer® actuator is shorted to the steering gear case.
