GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only

Use a tire changing machine to mount tires and to dismount tires. Follow the equipment manufacturer's instructions. Do not change tires with hand tools or tire irons. These tools can damage the tire bead or the wheel rim.

Use a wire brush or course steel wool to clean the rim bead seats to remove the following:

    • To remove lubricants.
    • To remove old rubber.
    • To remove light rust.

Caution: Do not lubricate the tire beads or the wheel rim with lubrication which contains silicone.

Before mounting or dismounting a tire, clean the bead area and completely lubricate the area with GM P/N 9958709 or equivalent.

Caution: To avoid serious personal injury, do not stand over tire when inflating. The bead may break when the bead snaps over the safety hump. Do not exceed 275 kPa (40 psi) pressure when inflating any tire if beads are not seated. If 275 kPa (40 psi) pressure will not seat the beads, deflate, relubricate the beads and reinflate. Overinflation may cause the bead to break and cause serious personal injury.

After mounting, inflate the tire to 275 pKa (40 psi) so that the beads are completely seated.
