Removal Procedure

  1. Verify that the lever is in the center of the OFF position.
  2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.

  5. Disable the S.I.R. system.Refer to Disabling the SIR System in S.I.R.
  6. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in S.I.R.
  7. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  8. Remove the steering column shrouds. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
  9. Remove the wire harness straps (2) from the wire harness assembly (1) and the steering column.
  10. Dissconnect the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly connector from the S.I.R. coil assembly connector.

  12. Slide the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly connectors (2) out of the steering column bulkhead connector (1).

  14. Remove the pan head tapping screws (1) from the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly (2).
  15. Remove the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly (2) from the steering column tilt head assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the turn signal and multifunction switch. Use a small flat-blade in order to compress the electrical contact and move the turn signal and multifunction switch into position.
  2. Verify that the electrical contact of the turn signal and multifunction switch rests on the turn signal canceling cam.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the pan head tapping screws to the turn signal and multifunction switch.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the pan head tapping screws to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  6. Connect the turn signal and multifunction switch connectors (2) into the steering column bulkhead connector (1).
  7. Reconnect the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly connector to the S.I.R. coil assembly connector.
  8. Install the wire harness assembly (1) to the steering column wire harness straps (2).

  10. Install the steering column shrouds Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  11. Verify that the lever is in the center or the OFF position.
  12. Install the steering wheel to the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  13. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in S.I.R.
  14. Enable the S.I.R.system.Refer to Enabling the SIR System in S.I.R.
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
