The MAGNASTEER® system has software contained in the electronic brake control module (EBCM). The EBCM processes vehicle speed information from the antilock brake system (ABS) wheel speed sensors in order to provide a control signal to the MAGNASTEER® actuator. The MAGNASTEER® actuator is located in the power steering gear.

A diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored in the EBCM for the MAGNASTEER® if a malfunction occurs. A warning lamp will not illuminate during the malfunction. When a malfunction occurs, retrieve the DTC using a scan tool. A difference in power steering effort may be felt by the driver if a MAGNASTEER® DTC exists.
