Emblem/Nameplate Replacement Door GTP

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 25070 Heat Gun

    Important: Use the tape for protection and alignment marks for alignment of the new emblem/name plate.


    Object Number: 320077  Size: SH
  1. Apply tape to the area around the emblem/name plate.

  2. Object Number: 429763  Size: SH
  3. Heat the emblem/name plate, using a heat gun J 25070 152 mm (6 in) from the surface.
  4. Apply the heat using a circular motion for about 30 seconds.

  5. Peel the emblem/name plate from the door surface using a small plastic flat-bladed tool, being careful not to damage paint.

  6. Object Number: 321645  Size: SH
  7. Remove all adhesive from the door surface and the back of the emblem/name plate using 3M™ Scotch Brite molding adhesive remover disk 3M™ P/N 07501 or equivalent.
  8. Clean the door surface using Varnish Makers and Painters (VMP) naphtha.

Installation Procedure

  1. Mark the tape with the measurements for the barber location of the emblem/name plate.

  2. Object Number: 429763  Size: SH
  3. Warm the door surface with a heat gun J 25070 152 mm (6 in) from the surface to a minimum of 21°C (70°F).
  4. Peel the backing from the front end of the emblem/name plate.
  5. Do not touch the adhesive backing.

  6. Press the emblem/name plate to the door surface while continuing to remove the backing.
  7. Hand roll the emblem/name plate to the door surface to ensure proper adhesion.
  8. Inspect the emblem/name plate for bonding.
  9. Hand roll loose ends.

  10. Remove the tape from the area around the emblem/name plate.

Emblem/Nameplate Replacement Door SE

Removal Procedure

    Important: Use the tape for protection and alignment marks for alignment of the new emblem/name plate.

  1. Apply tape to the area around the emblem/name plate.

Removal Procedure

  1. Apply tape to the area around the emblem/name plate.

  2. Object Number: 429763  Size: SH
  3. Heat the emblem/name plate, using a heat gun J 25070 152 mm (6 in) from the surface.
  4. Apply the heat using a circular motion for about 30 seconds.

  5. Peel the emblem/name plate from the rear compartment lid surface using a small plastic flat-bladed tool, being careful not to damage paint.

  7. Remove all adhesive from the rear compartment lid surface and the back of the emblem/name plate using 3M™ Scotch Brite molding adhesive remover disk 3M™ P/N 07501 or equivalent.
  8. Clean the rear compartment lid surface using Varnish Makers and Painters (VMP) naphtha.

  4. Peel the backing from the front end of the emblem/name plate.
  5. Do not touch the adhesive backing.

  6. Press the emblem/name plate to the rear compartment lid surface while continuing to remove the backing.
  7. Press the emblem/name plate to the rear compartment lid while continuing to remove the backing.
  8. Hand roll the emblem/name plate to the rear compartment lid to ensure proper adhesion.
  9. Inspect the emblem/name plate for bonding.
  10. Hand roll loose ends.

  11. Remove the tape from the area around the emblem/name plate.

Emblem/Nameplate Replacement Door GT

Tools Required

J 25070 Heat Gun

Removal Procedure

  1. When replacing or repairing an emblem/nameplate do the following:
  2. 1.1. Use tape to protect the mounting surface during removal.
    1.2. Use tape for alignment marks for installation of the emblem/nameplate.

  3. To remove an emblem/nameplate, heat the emblem/nameplate using a J 25070 heat gun.
  4. Hold the J 25070 approximatly 152 mm (6 in) from the surface.
  5. Apply heat using a circular motion for about 30 seconds.

    Notice: Use a plastic, flat-bladed tool to prevent paint damage when removing an emblem/name plate.

  7. Use a plastic, flat-bladed tool to lift or remove the emblem/nameplate from the panel surface.
  8. Important: If tape is still intact on the molding or panel, do not remove the tape. Clean the tape and the mating surface with adhesive cleaner. Wipe the tape and the mating surface with a clean, lint free cloth. If the tape is damaged, continue with the replacement procedure.

  9. Apply the adhesive foam tape to the back of the emblem/nameplate and press the emblem/nameplate in place.
  10. When replacing, remove all adhesive from the body panel using a 3M™ scotch brite molding adhesive remover disk 3M™ P/N 07502 or equivalent.

Installation Procedure

    Important: Apply the emblem/nameplate in an environment that is free from dust or other dirt that could come into contact with the sticky backing. Foreign material may cause improper adhesion.

  1. Clean the area where the emblem/nameplate will be installed.
  2. Use a lint free cloth and Varnish Makers and Painters (VMP) naphtha or a (50/50 mixture) by volume of isopropyl alcohol and water to clean the area.

  3. Dry the area thoroughly.

  5. If the location of emblem/name plate has not been marked, apply tape and use the following dimensions:
  6. • Dimension (A) 70 mm (2.75 inches) from the edge of the rear compartment lid to the lower end of the " L".
    • Dimension (B) 89 mm (3.5 inches) from the bottom edge of the rear compartment lid to the bottom edge of the letter "L".
  7. Heat the mounting surface to approximately 27-41°C (80-105°F) using the J 25070 heat gun, if necessary..
  8. Ensure that the temperature of the emblem/name plate is approximately 29-32°C (85-90°F).
  9. Remove the protective liner from the back of the emblem/name plate.
  10. Position the emblem/name plate to the location marks and press the emblem/name plate to the mounting surface.
  11. Apply equal pressure along the emblem/name plate in order to uniformly bond the item to the mounting surface.
  12. Remove the protective tape from the mounting surface.
