J 41352 Modular Column Holding Fixture


    Object Number: 323849  Size: SH

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Important: Put the steering column in the CENTER position.

  3. Remove the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle .
  4. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  5. Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  6. Put the steering column and J 41352 into a vise.
  7. Inspect the steering column for accident damage. Refer to Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection - Off Vehicle .

  8. Object Number: 306205  Size: SH
  9. Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws (1) from the lower trim cover (2).

  10. Object Number: 328807  Size: SH
  11. Remove the lower trim cover from the upper trim cover.
  12. Tilt the lower trim cover down.
  13. Slide the lower trim cover backward in order to disengage the locking tabs.

  14. Object Number: 368494  Size: SH
  15. Remove the trim cover protector (1) from the lower trim cover (2).

  16. Object Number: 306214  Size: SH
  17. Remove the 2 TORX® head screws (1) from the upper trim cover (2).
  18. Remove the upper trim cover (2) from the steering column.
