The door locks use the fork bolt lock design which includes a safety interlock feature. The door is secured in a closed position when the door lock fork bolt engages the striker. Lock the doors from the inside by sliding the lock knob rearward.

Removal Procedure

    Important: Do not attempt repairs in order to correct lock discrepancies. Replace the lock.

  1. Remove the rear door trim panel. Refer to Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
  2. Remove the rear door water deflector. Refer to Rear Side Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  3. Remove the rear inner energy absorber pad. Refer to Rear Side Door Inner Panel Lower Energy Absorber Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 294857  Size: SH
  5. Remove the clips (1) securing the inside handle rod (3) and lock rod (2) to the door handle.
  6. Remove the inside handle rod and lock rod from the door handle.
  7. Use side cutters in order to cut off the outside handle rod-to-lock clip from the lock.
  8. Unscrew the remainder of the clip from the outside handle rod.
  9. Discard the clip.

  11. Remove the screws (1,2,3) securing the lock to the door.
  12. Remove the lock rod and the inside handle rod from the retaining clips.
  13. Remove the lock from the door with the inside handle rods attached to the lock.

  15. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  16. Remove the inside handle rod and lock rod from the lock.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 316105  Size: MH
  1. Install the inside handle rod and lock rod to the lock.
  2. Install the door lock in position through the access hole in the door inner panel.

  3. Object Number: 316109  Size: MH
  4. Connect the electrical connectors.

  5. Object Number: 315760  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the door lock screws in the proper fastener tightening sequence. First the top screw (1), then the bottom (2) and lastly the middle screw (3).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the door lock screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  8. Install a new outside handle rod-to-lock clip onto the door lock lever.
  9. Position the outside door handle rod in the clip in order to eliminate any free play in the outside door handle.
  10. Install the clip cover closed over the threaded outside door handle rod.
  11. Install the inside handle rod and lock rod to the door handle.
  12. Install the clips to secure the inside handle rod and lock rod to the door handle.
  13. Install the retaining clips to the handle rod and lock rod.
  14. Install the energy absorber pad. Refer to Rear Side Door Inner Panel Lower Energy Absorber Replacement .
  15. Install the rear door water deflector. Refer to Rear Side Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  16. Remove the rear door trim panel. Refer to Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
  17. Inspect the lock system for proper operation.
