Test Description

The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table:

  1. Tests to see if the scan tool powers up

  2. Tests to see if the scan tool can communicate with the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM)

  3. Test to see if the Driver Side Belt Status parameter displays buckled

  4. Test to see if DTC 001 is present in the body control module (BCM)

Install a scan tool.

Does the scan tool power up?

Go to Step 2

Go to Scan Tool Does Not Power Up in Data Link Communications

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to establish communication with the SDM.

Does the scan tool communicate with the SDM?

Go to Step 3

Go to Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with UART Data Line in Data Link Communications

  1. Buckle the driver seat belt.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the Driver Side Belt Status in the SIR data list.

Does the scan tool indicate that the Driver Side Belt Status parameter displays buckled?

Go to Step 4

Go to Symptoms - Seat Belts

  1. Disconnect the scan tool.
  2. Enter the BCM On - Board Diagnostic features. Refer to On-Board Diagnostic Features in Body Control System.

Does the BCM indicate that DTC 001 is present?

Go to DTC 001
