  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the brake fluid level sensor.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the BRAKE indicator still illuminate?

Replace the brake fluid level sensor. Refer to Brake Fluid Level Indicator Switch Replacement .

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

System OK

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the park brake switch.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the BRAKE indicator still illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 4

Replace the park brake switch.

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

--

System OK

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the daytime running lamps (DRL) control module connector C2.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the BRAKE indicator still illuminate?

Go to Step 7

  1. Inspect for a short to ground in the signal circuit going to the DRL module.
  2. If the circuit is OK, replace the DRL control module. Refer to Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Control Module Replacement in Lighting Systems.

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

Disconnect the ignition switch.

Does the BRAKE indicator still illuminate?

Go to Step 9

Replace the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

  1. Inspect for a short to ground on the signal circuit going to the IPC BRAKE indicator.
  2. If the circuit is OK, replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
