Did you perform the DIC Diagnostic System Check?

Start the engine.

Does the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator illuminate in the DIC?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the Engine Oil Life Remaining parameter in the PCM Engine Data 2 Data list.

Does the Engine Oil Life Remaining parameter display 0%?

Go to Step 4

Reset the engine oil life. Refer to GM Oil Life System Resetting in Maintenance and Lubrication.

Does the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator turn off?

Go to Step 8

  1. Disconnect PCM connector C2.
  2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  3. Observe the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator in the DIC.

Does the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator illuminate in the DIC?

Go to Step 7

Test the change oil soon indicator control circuit for an open, for a high resistance, or for a short to battery voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 12

Test the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator control circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the DIC. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the PCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the DIC. Refer to Driver Information Center Module Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 12

Program the replacement PCM.: Replace the PCM. Refer to Powertrain Control Module Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L. or to Powertrain Control Module Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
