DEFINITION: This table diagnoses the wipers operate normally but will not return to the park position when the wiper operation is cancelled.

Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

Go to Diagnostic Starting Point - Wiper/Washer Systems

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Move the wiper switch to the LO position.
  3. Move the wiper switch to the OFF position.

Do the front wipers advance to the park position?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  2. Turn the wiper switch to OFF.
  3. Disconnect the wiper/washer switch connector.

Do the wipers park?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 4

Check for wiper motor bracket and crank arm damage.

Was damage found?

Go to Wiper Motor Crank Arm Replacement

Go to Step 5

At the wiper/washer switch connector, measure the voltage of the windshield wiper switch signal 2 circuit.

Does the voltage measure greater than 1.0 volts?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 9

  1. Reconnect the wiper/washer switch connector.
  2. Disconnect the wiper motor connector.
  3. Measure the voltage of the windshield wiper switch signal 2 circuit.

Does the voltage measure greater than 1.0 volts?

Go to Step 7

Repair a short to battery positive voltage in the windshield wiper switch signal 2 circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Replace the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.

Did you complete the replacement?

Replace the wiper motor cover. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Cover Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 10

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?

System OK
