Did you perform the DIC Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the Engine Oil Life Remaining parameter in the PCM Engine Data 2 Data list.

Does the Engine Oil Life Remaining parameter display 0%?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 3

Use the Engine Oil Life Reset feature of the scan tool output controls to reset the engine oil life parameter to 0%.

Does the CHANGE ENGINE OIL Indicator illuminate?

System OK

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the DIC.
  3. Connect a test light between the change engine oil indicator control circuit and battery voltage.
  4. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

Test the change engine oil indicator control circuit for an open, for a high resistance, or for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the DIC. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the PCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Important: : Program the replacement PCM.

Replace the PCM. Refer to Powertrain Control Module Replacement in Engine Controls (3.1L) or to Powertrain Control Module Replacement in Engine Controls (3.8L).

Replace the DIC. Refer to Driver Information Center Module Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
