J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Do not attempt to repair or alter the head impact energy-absorbing material glued to the headliner or to the garnish trims. If the material is damaged, replace the headliner and/or the garnish trim. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.


    Object Number: 319893  Size: MH
  1. Remove the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement in Roof.
  2. Remove the sunshade anchors. Refer to Sunshade Anchor Replacement in Roof.
  3. Disconnect the electric connector to the rear view mirror.
  4. Remove the overhead console, if equipped. Refer to Roof Console Replacement .
  5. Remove the power sunroof switch, if equipped. Refer to Sunroof Switch Replacement in Roof.
  6. Remove the dome light, if equipped.
  7. Remove the assist handle. Refer to Front Assist Handle Replacement and to Roof Rail Rear Assist Handle Replacement .
  8. Remove the side rail lamp. Refer to Roof Side Rail Lamp Replacement in Roof.
  9. Remove the windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Roof.
  10. Remove the rear quarter upper trim panels. Refer to Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement .
  11. Pull down on the door opening weatherstrip seal on both the front and the rear doors.
  12. If sunroof, remove the finish lace from the sunroof opening. Refer to Sunroof Opening Trim Finish Lace Replacement in Roof.
  13. Remove the rear push-in retainers (2) from the headliner using J 38778 .
  14. Disconnect the headliner electric harness at the right side of the rear window shelf.
  15. Rotate the right front seat back to a horizontal position.
  16. Remove the headliner from the vehicle through the right front door.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 319893  Size: MH

    Important: Do not bend the headlining too much when installing the headlining.

  1. Install the headliner to the vehicle through the right front door.
  2. Align the sunshade holes (1) in the headlining with the respective hole in the body structure.
  3. Connect the headliner electric harness at the right side of the rear window shelf.
  4. Install the push-in retainers (2) to the headliner.
  5. Install the door opening weatherstrip seal in order to hold the headliner in place on both the front and the rear doors.
  6. Install the finish lace around the sunroof opening. Refer to Sunroof Opening Trim Finish Lace Replacement in Roof.
  7. Install the rear quarter upper trim panel. Refer to Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement .
  8. Install the windshield pillar garnish molding . Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Roof.
  9. Install the side rail lamps. Refer to Roof Side Rail Lamp Replacement in Roof.
  10. Install the assist handle. Refer to Front Assist Handle Replacement and to Roof Rail Rear Assist Handle Replacement .
  11. Install the overhead console. Refer to Roof Console Replacement .
  12. Connect the electric connector to the rear view mirror.
  13. Install the sunshade anchors. Refer to Sunshade Anchor Replacement .
  14. Install the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement .
