When the body control module (BCM) receives a ground signal from the headlamp dimmer switch high beam signal or flash to pass (FTP) switch signal commanding to illuminate the high beam headlamps, the BCM will energize the high beam relay by grounding the high beam relay control circuit.
This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:
DTC B2580 Headlamp High Beam Control Circuit
The battery voltage must be between 9.0-16.0 volts.
• | When the BCM receives a high beam headlamp OFF command and the high beam headlamp relay control circuit is shorted to ground. |
• | When the BCM receives a high beam headlamp ON command and the high beam headlamp relay control circuit is shorted to voltage or open. |
The high beam headlamps will not operate or will remain always on.
• | This DTC will clear on current status after the condition for setting the fault is corrected. |
• | A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles without a fault present. |
• | History and current DTCs can be cleared using a scan tool. |

Voltage is applied at all times to the high beam headlamp relay from battery voltage. When the dimmer switch or the flash to pass switch send a ground input to the BCM, the BCM sends a ground output to the high beam relay. The high beam relay is activated then the switch side of the relay closes and turns on the lights.
The ignition is ON. The headlamps must be commanded ON by either the BCM.
The BCM detects a short to voltage on the high beam headlamps relay control circuit while trying to apply a ground to the circuit.
The high beam headlamps are not illuminated.
The BCM clears this code from current when the fault is removed from the system.

Ignition ON, turn the headlamps ON. Turn the high beams ON. The headlamps should illuminate.
