Circuit/System Description
The engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM) engine speed signal circuit provides the EBCM with an indication of engine RPM to help determine TCS control methods and rates when a TCS event takes place.
Conditions for Running the DTC
| • | Engine Running. |
| • | After 2 seconds starting, and if there is a undervoltage condition. |
Conditions for Setting the DTC
An open/high resistance, or short to ground on the engine speed signal circuit.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
| • | The EBCM disables traction control system (TCS) for the duration of the ignition cycle. |
| • | A DIC message and/or a warning indicator may be displayed. |
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
| • | The condition for the DTC is no longer present in the last 100 ignition cycles and no DTCS have been detected. |
| • | The condition for the DTC is no longer present. |

Circuit/System Verification
Engine Running, with the scan tool observe the EBCM Engine Speed parameter and the ECM/PCM Engine Speed parameter. The reading should increase and decrease when pressing and releasing the accelerator pedal.
Circuit/System Testing
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the C1 harness connector at the EBCM.
- Ignition ON, test for B+ between the signal circuit terminal listed below and ground .
- Replace the EBCM .

| • | Terminal 7 (JL4) |
| ⇒ | If less than the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM/PCM. |
