ENGINE OIL LEAK PINK PCV PINK PCV REPLACEMENT

SOME EARLY PRODUCTION 1982 CAVALIER ENGINES WERE PRODUCED WITH A PINK COLORED PCV VALVE. DURING APRIL, 1981 A NEW PCV VALVE (BLUE IN COLOR) ENTERED PRODUCTION TO DECREASE THE CRANKCASE PRESSURE OF THE ENGINE. SHOULD AN ENGINE OIL LEAK BE ENCOUNTERED ON ENGINES EQUIPPED WITH THE EARLY (PINK) PCV VALVE, THE VALVE SHOULD BE REPLACED USING THE (BLUE OR BLUE DOT IDENTIFIED) VALVE P/N 8995284 AVAILABLE THROUGH SERVICE PARTS STOCK, PRIOR TO MAKING ANY FURTHER REPAIRS. WHEN THE NEW VALVE IS INSTALLED THE ENGINES BASE IDLE SPEED MUST BE RESET PER THE INSTRUCTIONS SHOWN ON PAGE 6-C1-11 OF THE 1982 CAVALIER SHOP MANUAL. REEVALUATE THE OIL LEAK WITH THE NEW VALVE INSTALLED AND IF IT WAS NOT CORRECTED, DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF LEAK AND REPAIR BY FOLLOWING THE APPROPRIATE SHOP MANUAL PROCEDURE. USE APPLICABLE LABOR OPERATION.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
