It has been brought to our attention that there have been some alleged problems with front wheel drive vehicle rear brake effectiveness on various state and city inspection lane type testing.
This has been found to be a test problem, not a vehicle problem, that has also been seen on other small front wheel drive cars and some pickups. In addition to being light, these vehicles use a relatively low proportion of rear braking. In some cases, the test equipment does not have sufficient sensitivity to register rear brake effect. In others, the values registered are lower than guidelines.
You may be involved in an owner complaint regarding the condition described above. In no way should an attempt be made to repair a vehicle unless there is a known irregularity. If this cannot be resolved locally, please contact your Pontiac zone office.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
