Some 1982, and 1983, CE model only, and early 1984 model THM 125/125-C transmissions may exhibit a second gear start, which is best described as the transmission starting in second gear range instead of first gear range.
Starting with the serial numbers listed below a new control valve body assembly went into production to correct this second gear start condition.
When servicing any 1982 or 1983 CE model only, or early 1984 model THM 125/125-C transmission for this second gear start condition, replace the control valve body assembly with the control valve body assembly listed in the dealership parts manual.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
