CALIPER BOLT CORROSION ON THE MODELS SHOWN ABOVE MAY PREVENT CALIPERS FROM SLIDING FREELY. THIS MAY CAUSE BRAKE PULSATION AND/OR ACCELERATED LINING WEAR. ANY TIME CALIPERS ARE REMOVED FOR BRAKE WORK ON SUBJECT MODELS, THE MOUNTING BOLTS SHOULD BE INSPECTED. IF CORROSION IS PRESENT, THESE BOLTS SHOULD BE REPLACED. UPON REASSEMBLY, WITH EITHER THE ORIGINAL OR REPLACEMENT MOUNTING BOLTS, THE CAVITY BETWEEN THE BUSHINGS SHOULD BE FILLED WITH SILICON GREASE TO INHIBIT FURTHER CORROSION (SEE ILLUSTRATION). PART NUMBERS TO BE USED ARE AS FOLLOWS: CALIPER MOUNTING BOLTS: 1980 AND 81 'X' SERIES (2 REQUIRED PER CALIPER) PART NUMBER: 18002785 CALIPER MOUNTING BOLTS: 1982 'A', 'X' AND 'J' SERIES (2 REQUIRED PER CALIPER) PART NUMBER 14021016 SILICON GREASE IS AVAILABLE FROM AC DELCO UNDER PART NUMBER 179-651.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
