Comments of poor performance, surging or lack of power may be experienced due to cracked exhaust emission hose harness elbows.
If a vehicle experiences this condition, the complete emission harness assembly should be replaced. These replacement harnesses are individually tested for leakage at the factory. No attempt should be made to replace or repair just the elbows.
Harnesses with elbows fabricated with an alternate material are now being used in production and currently available for service from G.M.W.D.D. The new harnesses can be identifled by 2 small 'ears', about 3mm (1/8 inch) square, located at the vertex on both sides of the elbows (see figure 1).

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
