RTV SILICONE SEALANT THM 200 AND 200C TRANSMISSIONS

SOME THM 200 AND 200C TRANSMISSIONS ARE NOW ASSEMBLED WITH R.T.V. SEALANT IN PLACE OF THE CURRENT PRODUCTION CORK GASKET. THIS CHANGE BECAME EFFECTIVE IN EARLY MAY, 1981.

SERVICE INFORMATION

1. R.T.V. SEALANT SHOULD ONLY BE USED ON OIL PANS WITH EITHER A FLAT FLANGE OR A FLANGE WITH DEPRESSED STIFFENING RIBS. SEE FIGURE 1.

2. R.T.V. SEALANT SHOULD NOT BE USED ON OIL PANS WITH RAISED STIFFENING RIBS OR LEAKS WILL RESULT. SEE FIGURE 2.

3. THE CURRENT PRODUCTION CORK GASKET SHOULD NOT BE USED ON OIL PANS WITH A FLANGE OR LEAKS WILL RESULT.

4. IF A CORK GASKET IS USED ON A RIBBED OIL PAN, WHICH WAS PREVIOUSLY ASSEM- BLED WITH R.T.V., ALL R.T.V. MUST BE REMOVED FROMT THE OIL PAN AND CASE FLANGE BEFORE REINSTALLATION.

5. OIL PAN REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT FOR R.T.V. SEALANT:

A. REMOVE THE OIL PAN FOLLOWING THE NORMAL SERVICE PROCEDURE. IF THE OIL PAN DOES NOT COME FREE WHEN ALL THE ATTACHING BOLTS ARE LOOSE, TAP THE OIL PAN WITH A RUBBER MALLET. DO NOT PRY BETWEEN THE PAN AND CASE FLANGES.

B. USE A SHARP EDGED PLASTIC SCRAPER AND REMOVE ANY LOOSE R.T.V. SEALANT FROM THE CASE AND OIL PAN FLANGE. (THE R.T.V. DOES NOT HAVE TO BE COMPLETELY REMOVED, ONLY THE EXCESS OR LOOSE MATERIAL SHOULD BE RE- MOVED.)

C. USE A CLEAN, DRY RAG AND SOLVENT TO DRY THE CASE AND OIL PAN FLANGES.

NOTICE: IF THE CASE AND OIL PAN FLANGE ARE NOT DRY AND FREE OF OIL FILM OR THE INCORRECT OIL PAN IS USED, LEAKAGE WILL RESULT.

D. APPLY A CONTINUOUS 1/16" BEAD OF R.T.V. SEALANT TO THE OIL PAN FLANGE. IF THE FLANGE HAS DEPRESSED STIFFENING RIBS, THE R.T.V. MUST BE APPLIED AROUND THE INSIDE OF THE BOLT HOLES.

E. INSTALL THE OIL PAN WHILE THE R.T.V. SEALANT IS WET AND TORQUE THE OIL PAN BOLTS TO 16 N.M (12 FT. LBS.).

6. THE R.T.V. SEALANT CURRENTLY RECOMMENDED FOR SERVICE APPLICATIONS BY THE HYDRA-MATIC SERVICE DEPARTMENT CAN BE ORDERED FROM WDDGM IN A THREE OUNCE TUBE, PART NUMBER 1052366, OR A TEN OUNCE CARTRIDGE, PART NUMBER 1052434.
