DIESEL FUEL RESERVE INFORMATION

THE 1981 MODEL DIESEL FUEL GAGES WERE REDESIGNED FOR MORE ACCURACY, DUE TO A CHANGE IN THE FUEL RESERVE. RESERVE CAPACITY HAS BEEN REDUCED TO APPROXIMATELY 1/2 TO 3 GALLONS, WHICH IS STATED IN THE 1981 OWNERS MANUAL AS "LESS THAN FIVE GALLONS". ALL 1981 MODEL DIESEL CARS HAVE A CHECK VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK FILTER WHICH WILL PERMIT FUEL TO PASS SHOULD THE TANK FILTER BECOME PLUGGED WITH PARAFFIN WAX DURING COLD WEATHER OPERATION. IF THIS HAPPENS THE LAST FOUR GALLONS OF FUEL WILL NOT BE REMOVED FROM THE TANK DUE TO THE LOCATION OF THE CHECK VALVE. CUSTOMERS SHOULD BE ADVISED TO KEEP THEIR TANKS ABOVE THE 1/4 MARK AT TEMPERATURES BELOW 20 DEGREES TO PREVENT RUNNING OUT OF FUEL.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
