SOME 1981 "A", "A-SP.", "B" AND "X" SERIES EQUIPPED WITH AIR CONDITIONING (C-60, C-61) MAY REQUIRE EXCESSIVE EFFORT TO OPERATE THE MODE LEVER ON THE AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL. NO ATTEMPT SHOULD BE MADE TO DISASSEMBLE AND/OR LUBRICATE THE VALVE. 1.DISCONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. 2.REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL TRIM COVER. 3.REMOVE A/C CONTROL MOUNTING SCREWS. 4.PULL CONTROL OUT OF I.P. FAR ENOUGH TO DISCONNECT THE VACUUM HARNESS CONNECTOR (FIGURE 1). 5.REMOVE SCREW THAT HOLDS THE VACUUM SELECT VALVE AND REMOVE THE VALVE (FIGURE 2). 6.REVERSE PROCEDURE FOR REINSTALLATION OF SELECT VALVE, A/C CONTROL AND I.P. TRIM COVER. 7.CHECK FOR PROPER OPERATION OF A/C CONTROL.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
