TEMPERATURE CONTROL HARD TO OPERATE REVISED

TEMPERATURE CONTROL HARD TO OPERATE/INOPERATIVE

Vehicles Affected: 1988 "T" CAR WITH AIR CONDITIONING -----------------

Some of the subject vehicles may experience a hard to operate or inoperative air temperature control for the air conditioner/heater system.

This condition may be caused by binding, or an excessive force requirement, in the bowden cable (part of the switch, air mix control) which links the temperature control knob to the A/C underdash unit.

The switch, air mix control, P/N 90244577 has been revised to incorporate a new improved bowden cable and is available from GMSPO. The revised version of this part is recognizable by the black outer casing to the bowden cable (original design parts have a white casing).

Corrective action for vehicles exhibiting this condition is to replace the switch, air mix control using the above prescribed part number and following the service manual procedure.

Use the most applicable labour operation from the Canadian Labour Time Guide.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
