HEATER &/OR A/C CONTROL KNOBS MAY BE LOOSE OR OFF

Subject: HEATER AND/OR A/C CONTROL KNOBS MAY BE LOOSE OR FALL OFF (GLUE KNOBS IN PLACE)

Models Affected: 1988-91 LEMANS

Instead of replacing the entire heater and/or A/C control head for loose mode select or temperature control knobs, it is possible to glue the knobs in place.

Repair Procedure:

If either the mode select or temperature rotary control knob is loose, remove it from the shaft by grabbing the raised portion of the knob and pulling it horizontally rearward. Place a small drop of Loctite (R) #290 Super Bond, or equivalent, in the hole on the backside of the knob and replace it back on the shaft. Allow the glue to dry before cycling the controls.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
