The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is located on the instrument panel cluster. The MIL will illuminate when there is an emission related failure or the ignition is ON with the engine OFF. Ignition 1 voltage is supplied to the MIL. The engine control module (ECM) turns the MIL ON by grounding the control circuit of the MIL using a low side driver. The ECM monitors the voltage level on the control circuit of the MIL. If the ECM detects a short to voltage on the control circuit of the MIL, this DTC sets.
This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:
DTC P1660 Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Control Circuit High Voltage
• | The ignition is ON or the engine is operating. |
• | The ignition 1 voltage is more than 10 volts. |
• | DTC P1660 runs continuously once the above conditions are met. |
The ECM detects a short to voltage on the control circuit of the MIL.
• | The MIL will illuminate. |
• | The ECM will record operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. This information will be stored in the Freeze Frame and Failure Records. |
• | A history DTC is stored. |
• | The MIL will turn OFF after 4 consecutive ignition cycles in which the diagnostic runs without a fault. |
• | A history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles without a fault. |
• | DTCs can be cleared by using the scan tool. |
• | Disconnect the ECM battery feed for more than 10 seconds. |
