J 1859-A (DW310-010) Steering Wheel Puller

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. If the vehicle has the supplemental inflatable restraint system (SIR), remove the steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement .
  3. If the vehicle does not have SIR, remove the steering wheel horn cap.

  4. Remove the steering wheel nut (2).
  5. Use paint in order to place match marks on the steering wheel and on the steering column shaft (1).

  6. Object Number: 1631127  Size: SH

    Important: Do not hit the top of the steering column shaft with a hammer during repair work.

  7. Remove the steering wheel using the J 1859-A .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1631122  Size: SH
  1. Align the match marks on the steering wheel and on the steering column shaft (1).
  2. Install the steering wheel to the steering column shaft.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the steering wheel nut (2).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the steering wheel nut to 38 N·m (28 lb ft).

  6. If the vehicle has SIR, install the steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement .
  7. If the vehicle does not have SIR, install the steering wheel horn cap.

  8. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
