When diagnosing a no start or start/stall condition, if the Tech 2 reveals a DTC B02955 is either current or history and a DTC B0687 or B0689 is also set, suspect an incorrect key. The U-Van changed from 1998 to 1999. The 1999 U-Van incorporates the PASS-Key®III theft deterrent system.
The 1998 key has a hard plastic overmold.
Note the PK3 (PASS-Key®III) identification on the 1999-2000 key. The overmold also feels somewhat rubbery. This key has a micro-chip embedded under the overmold.
Be sure that all of the customer's keys are the correct type.
Clear all the DTCs. Remember that DTCs B0687 and B0689 will always be stored in memory. Refer to Corporate Bulletin 99-08-47-001 for more information.
Do not replace the PASS-Key®III module. Confirm that the proper keys are being used.
