Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement Oldsmobile

Tools Required

J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover

Removal Procedure

  1. Open the lift gate.
  2. Remove the rear bumper fascia splash shield. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Splash Shield Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 314053  Size: SH
  4. Use the J 38778 in order to remove the push-in retainers from the upper and lower rear bumper fascia.
  5. Remove the screws at the right and left wheel well from the rear bumper fascia.
  6. Remove the palnut from the rear bumper fascia outer retainer.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector to the rear parking assist if equipped.
  8. Remove the rear bumper fascia from the vehicle.
  9. If you are replacing the rear bumper fascia.
  10. • Remove the rear parking assist object sensor wiring harness from the rear parking assist object sensors if equipped.
    • Remove the rear parking assist object sensors if equipped. Refer to Rear Object Sensor Replacement in Rear Parking Assist.
    • Remove the rear energy absorber. Refer to Rear Energy Absorber Replacement .

Installation Procedure

  1. If you are replacing the rear bumper fascia, perform the following:
  2. • Install the rear energy absorber. Refer to Rear Energy Absorber Replacement .
    • Install the rear parking assist object sensors if equipped. Refer to Rear Object Sensor Replacement in Rear Parking Assist.
    • Install the rear parking assist object sensor wiring harness to the rear parking assist object sensors if equipped.

  3. Align the rear bumper fascia to the rear bumper fascia outer support.

  4. Object Number: 314057  Size: SH
  5. Align the rear bumper fascia outer retainer to the body.

  6. Object Number: 314053  Size: SH
  7. Install the palnut to the rear bumper fascia outer retainer.
  8. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten
    Tighten the palnut to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  9. Install the screws at the right and left wheel well to the rear bumper fascia.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the rear bumper fascia wheel well screws to 3 N·m (26 lb in).

  11. Install the push-in retainers to the upper and lower rear bumper fascia.
  12. Connect the electrical connector to the rear parking assist if equipped.
  13. Install the rear bumper fascia splash shield. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Splash Shield Replacement .
  14. Close the lift gate.

Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement Pontiac

Tools Required

J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover

Removal Procedure

  1. Open the lift gate.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove both of the rear tire and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  4. Object Number: 314053  Size: SH
  5. Use the J 38778 in order to remove the push-in retainers from the upper and lower rear bumper fascia.
  6. Remove the screws at the right and left wheel well from the rear bumper fascia.
  7. Remove the palnut from the rear bumper fascia outer retainer.
  8. Partially remove the rear bumper fascia from the vehicle in order to access the rear object sensor electrical connectors, if equipped.
  9. Disconnect rear parking assist electrical connectors, if equipped.
  10. Remove the rear bumper fascia from the vehicle.

  11. Object Number: 314064  Size: SH
  12. Remove the rear bumper fascia reflectors. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Reflector Replacement .
  13. Remove the rear object sensors from the rear bumper fascia, if equipped. Refer to Rear Object Sensor Replacement in Rear Parking Assist.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 314055  Size: SH
  1. Install the rear object sensors to the rear bumper fascia, if equipped. Refer to Rear Object Sensor Replacement in Rear Parking Assist.
  2. Partially install the rear bumper fascia leaving access to rear object sensor electrical connectors, if equipped.
  3. Connect rear object sensor electrical connectors, if equipped.
  4. Align the rear bumper fascia to the rear bumper fascia outer support.

  5. Object Number: 314059  Size: SH
  6. Align the rear bumper fascia outer retainer to the body.
  7. Install the palnut to the rear bumper fascia outer retainer.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the rear bumper fascia outer retainer palnut to 2 N·m (18 lb in).


    Object Number: 314061  Size: SH
  9. Install the push-in retainers to the upper and lower rear bumper fascia.
  10. Install the screws at the right and left wheel well to the rear bumper fascia.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the rear bumper fascia wheel well screws to 3 N·m (26 lb in).


    Object Number: 314064  Size: SH
  12. Install the rear bumper fascia reflectors. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Reflector Replacement .
  13. Install both of the rear tire and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Close the lift gate.
