Tech - Slow/Non-Moving Glass, Bent Regulator Arm or Window is Inope

Subject:Slow/Non-Moving (Chatters/Noisy) Glass, Bent Regulator Arms or Window is Inoperative (Replace Run Channel and/or Weatherstrip)

Condition

Some customers may comment that the front door glass is slow or noisy when moving up or down or the window is inoperative.

Cause

The window run channel may be adjusted improperly which may cause the following:

    • The glass may be slow/non-moving.
    • The glass wears through the flocking on the weatherstrip and allows direct contact between the glass and the rubber of the weatherstrip, which causes drag.
    • Bent regulator arms may be due to glass drag from the run window channel.

Correction

Adjust the window run channel upper attachment full forward and the lower attachment full rearward. Replace run channel and/or weaherstrip, if necessary.

Procedure

  1. Remove the door switch plate.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the switch plate.
  3. Remove the bezel behind the door handle.
  4. Remove the bolts from the armrest.
  5. Remove the trim panel retainers and remove the trim panel.
  6. Remove the water deflector.
  7. Remove the inner belt seal.
  8. Remove the outer belt seal.
  9. Raise the glass to gain access to the lower sash channel retaining clips. Push in on the retainers and slide the sash channel to release the glass.
  10. Remove the glass from the door.
  11. Remove the weatherstrip from the run channel.
  12. Remove the bolts from the run channel and remove the run channel from the door.
  13. Loosen the mirror for weatherstrip removal.
  14. Remove the weatherstrip from the door.
  15. Spray the backside of the new weatherstrip with window cleaner for ease of installation and install the weatherstrip.
  16. Tighten the mirror retaining nuts.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  18. Install the window run channel in the door and leave the retaining bolts finger tight.
  19. With the window run channel installed, move the upper attachment full forward and the lower attachment full rearward.
  20. Tighten
    Tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  21. Install the weatherstrip in the window lower run channel.
  22. Install the glass door.
  23. Install the outer belt seal.
  24. Install the inner belt seal.
  25. Install the water deflector using a 50.8 mm (2 in) wallpaper roller. Starting at the bottom center and working outboard, roll out the butyle adhesive up the right and left sides. A 50.8 mm (2 in) roller can be purchased at a hardware or wallpaper store.
  26. Install the trim panel.
  27. Install the door trim panel bolts.
  28. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 3 N·m (26 lb in).

  29. Attach the electrical connectors to the switch and install the switch.
  30. Install the door handle bezel.
