Removal Procedure

  1. Open and support the hood.
  2. Notice: When removing body panels, apply tape to corners of panel and adjacent surfaces to help prevent paint damage.

  3. Place the protective coverings over the adjacent body panels.
  4. Raise and support vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  5. Remove the front tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  6. Remove the cruise control module, if equipped, from the left fender. Refer to Cruise Control Module Replacement in Cruise Control.
  7. Remove the front turn signal/side marker lamp. Refer to Hazard and Turn Signal Flasher Replacement in Lighting Systems.

  9. Remove the fender splash shield. Refer to Wheelhouse Splash Shield Replacement , for Oldsmobile only.
  10. Remove the front fender liner. Refer to Fender Liner Replacement .
  11. Remove the fender to front bumper fascia bolts. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement in Bumpers.
  12. Remove the fender to fascia bolt at the lower door hinge pillar.
  13. Remove the fender bolts from the rear edge of the fender at the door hinge pillar.
  14. Remove the fender bolts from the upper edge of the fender.
  15. Remove the fender from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Align the fender to the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the fender bolts to the upper edge of the fender.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  5. Install the from the rear edge of the fender at the door hinge pillar.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  7. Install the fender to front bumper fascia bolts at the lower door hinge pillar.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  9. Install the fender to front bumper fascia bolts/screws. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement in Bumpers.
  10. Install the front fender liner. Refer to Fender Liner Replacement .
  11. Install the fender splash shield. Refer to Wheelhouse Splash Shield Replacement , for Oldsmobile only.
  12. Install the front turn signal/side marker lamp. Refer to Hazard and Turn Signal Flasher Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  13. Install the cruise control module, if equipped, from the left fender. Refer to Cruise Control Module Replacement in Cruise Control.
  14. Install the front tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Remove the protective coverings from the adjacent body panels.
  17. Close the hood.
