Subject: | Service VME --Dashboard Vent Flutter Noise |
Models: | . |
When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
This is a service VME for all Chevrolet, Pontiac and Oldsmobile dealers regarding a flutter noise from the dashboard HVAC vents on 2002 and 2003 Ventures, Silhouettes, and Montanas. Some customers may complain of a noise coming from the dash area often described as a flutter or loose paper type noise. To repair this noise, first identify which vent is causing the noise. Remove the vent louvers by pulling sideways on the assembly. Next pull off the adjustment wheel. Reach in and gently remove the plastic baffle. The noise is caused by the action of the airflow on the foam strip, pulling it out on the baffle on the side nearest the occupants and flapping. Next use a drop of glue or hot melt in the center of the baffle to secure the foam in place. Reinstall all parts.
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
