Cloth Seat Cleaning Procedure - keywords clean stain water

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Customer complaint of water stains or light soiling on vehicles typically equipped with lighter colored cloth seats. Attempts to spot clean the seat will usually result in removal of the stain but a visible ring will exist around the previously stained area.

A variety of seat covers have been cleaned using the following procedure.

1. Mix a mild soap and water solution using a cleaner such as: GM Multi-Wash (Canadian Dealers Only), Simple Green or Bissel Carpet Shampoo. When creating the cleaning solution use only a small amount of the product. All of the products listed were mixed at a rate of 1 -2 ounces per U.S. gallon or approx. 25mil to 4lt of water. The key is to use a mild soap at a highly diluted rate.
2. Lightly scrub the entire affected cover with the soap and water solution as evenly as possible. It is not necessary to saturate the seat with solution only enough solution to evenly wet the entire affected cover should be applied.
3. Use a Shop Vac and remove as much of the solution as possible. Vacuum the entire seat cover using even strokes. It is important to perform this step as evenly and thoroughly as possible to ensure success.
4. Once the seat is thoroughly dry apply Saturn fabric protectant P/N 22731175 (non V.O.C. compliant states) or P/N 15210953 (V.O.C. compliant states). Apply the protectant evenly to ensure adequate protection and a uniform appearance. When applied correctly this product will not alter the color of the seat. (this step is optional)

This procedure has proven successful for light soiling and water stains. The cleaning products listed are suggested examples only and not endorsed by General Motors. Other mild soap products may also prove to be successful when applied using this procedure.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
