The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some owners may comment about an engine oil leak. Upon inspection you may find that the oil leak appears to be coming from one of the bolts that secure the side of the oil pan to the crankshaft main bearing caps inside the pan.
Remove the bolt in question and replace it with a new bolt. When installing this new bolt apply GM pipe sealant to the threads of the bolt. Also, veryify that the machined surface around the bolt hole in the oil pan is clean and that there are no imperfections.
When installing the new bolt(s) in the side of the oil pan be advised that the tightening (torque) specification has been changed. The new torque specification is 50 N.m (37 lb ft) plus an additional 50 degrees of rotation. Note: The old specification did not include the extra 50 degrees of rotation. Efforts are underway to update the tightening specifications in SI,
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
