1. Power Sliding Door Malfunction

2. Power Sliding Door Open/Close Switch Inoperative

Circuit/System Description

The power sliding door (PSD) is designed to stop and reverse direction when an obstruction is present. Proper mechanical operation of the PSD is necessary for power open and close functions to occur.

Diagnostic Aids

Manually open and close the PSD slowly in order to determine if the door operates smoothly and without excessive resistance.

    • Clean and lubricate or replace the tracks as necessary.
    • Inspect for loose guide rollers on the center roller bracket.
    • Verify proper PSD cable tension
    • Verify that the door and latches are aligned and operate properly. Refer to Sliding Rear Side Door Adjustment, Rear Side Door Front Edge In/Out Adjustment Rear Side Door Rear Edge In/Out Adjustment and Rear Side Door Up/Down Adjustment
    • Inspect for misaligned weatherstrips

Inspect the PSD plungers and corresponding B-Pillar pads for the following conditions:

    • Proper door plunger operation.
    • Clean electrical contact from the door plungers to the B-pillar pads.
    • Proper alignment of the door plungers to the B-pillar pads.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, observe the scan tool PSD Detent Switch parameter while opening and closing the appropriate power sliding door. The parameter should change between Active and Inactive.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the C1 harness connector at the appropriate door contact plate.
  2. Test for less than 1 ohm between the ground circuit terminal C and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool PSD Detent Switch parameter is Inactive.
  5. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminals listed below for a short to ground. If the circuits test normal, replace the PSDM.
    • Terminal E
    • Terminal F
  6. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminals listed below and ground:
  7. • Terminal E
    • Terminal F
  8. Verify the scan tool PSD Detent Switch parameter is Active.
  9. If not the specified value, test the signal circuits for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the PSDM.
  10. Ignition OFF, connect the C1 harness connector at the door contact plate. Close the door and disconnect the harness connector at sliding door detent switch.
  11. Test for less than 5.0 ohms between the ground circuit terminal B and ground.
  12. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the door contact plate.
  13. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool PSD Detent Switch parameter is Inactive.
  14. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal A for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the door contact plate.
  15. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal A and ground. Verify the scan tool PSD Detent Switch parameter is Active.
  16. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the door contact plate.
  17. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the sliding door detent switch.

Component Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate sliding door detent switch.
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal A and the ground terminal B with the switch in the open position.
  3. If not the specified value, replace the sliding door detent switch.
  4. Test for less than 2.0 ohms between the signal terminal A and the ground terminal B with the switch in the closed position.
  5. If greater than the specified range, replace the sliding door detent switch
