Body Side Moldings Pushing Off or Curling - kw fit information

Subject:Body side moldings pushing off or curling

Models:

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some GMT201 crossover sports vans may experience body side moldings pushing off the vehicle or curling at the edges. There are 2 concerns. Pushing off may be caused by the a locating tab being dimensionally larger than the corresponding slot, or a tab may be bent and not in the hole, Curling is caused by insufficient wet out.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Follow the instructions in SI for removal and surface preparation. Before attaching the new body side molding, dry fit it to the vehicle. The function of the 2 tabs are for locating the molding, not retention. Check for an easy fit. If there is binding, use a utility knife to shave them down until they slide into their slots with minimal effort. When ready to attach the molding insert the locating pin into the small hole first, then the other pin into the slotted hole. Use a roller or firm hand pressure to insure complete wet out, paying particular attention to the ends.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
