Schematic Reference: Video System Schematics

DEFINITION: With the video system ON and a digital video disc (DVD) playing, the picture on the display is blank, with the backlighting OFF, or the picture on the display is poor, with backlighting ON. Note that if the video display is not receiving a video signal from the DVD player, the display backlighting is OFF.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Turn ON the wireless headphones.
  3. Test the operation of the radio with the video entertainment system OFF and the rear seat audio (RSA) OFF. Radio audio plays through the front speakers, overhead speakers, and the rear speakers.
  4. Turn OFF the radio. Leave the RSA OFF.
  5. Turn ON the DVD player. Load a DVD in the DVD player. Start the DVD. Video audio plays through the front speakers, overhead speakers, rear speakers, and Channel A of the wireless headphones. The display plays video from the DVD player.

Does the system operate normally?

Test the video signal (+) circuit between the DVD player and the rear/video/audio/HVAC module for the following conditions:

    • An open
    • A short to ground
    • A short to voltage

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the following harness connectors:

    • The DVD player connector
    • The rear video/audio/HVAC module connector C2

Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 7

Replace the DVD player. Refer to Video Disc Player Replacement .

Replace the rear video/audio/HVAC module. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.
