INOP INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS GROUNDED RADIO LIGHT BULB

1985 PONTIAC VEHICLES (EXCEPT 1000) EQUIPPED WITH UX1 AND UT4 RADIOS

Condition:

---------- Some 1985 Pontiac vehicles (except 1000) equipped with AM/FM stereo with seek/scan, cassette, and graphic equalizer (UX1 & UT4) may experience a loss of the instrument panel lights when the light switch is turned on.

Cause:

----- The condition may be the result of the right hand I.P. radio mounting bracket anti-rotation tab contacting the radio lighting bulb inside the radio.

Correction:

---------- Remove the right hand radio bracket and remove enough material from the tab such that only .050 inch (1.6 mm) material remains on the tab (see illustration).

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
