CAMPAIGN: MODIFICATION PHOENIX CAM BOLT

SOME 1980 PHOENIX MODELS WERE ASSEMBLED WITH A STANDARD BOLT NUT FASTENER INSTEAD OF THE SPECIAL CAM BOLT AT THE FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER STRUT AND KNUCKLE ATTACHING LOCATION.

WHILE THE VEHICLES, AS SHIPPED, ARE PROPERLY SET FOR CAMBER, THE USE OF THE STANDARD BOLT NUT FASTENER (NO CAM FEATURE) WILL MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO SET THE CAMBER IF A SERVICE ALIGNMENT IS REQUIRED IN CUSTOMER SERVICE.

TO FACILITATE CAMBER ADJUSTMENT, IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO INSTALL A SPECIAL CAM BOLT ON ALL VEHICLES PRODUCED WITH THE STANDARD BOLT.

OWNER NOTIFICATION

NO OWNER NOTIFICATION WILL BE REQUIRED SINCE ALL INVOLVED VEHICLES ARE IN DEALER STOCK.

DEALER MODIFICATION RESPONSIBILITY

DEALERS ARE TO PERFORM THIS PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT MODIFICATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES IN NEW CAR STOCK PRIOR TO VEHICLE SALE.

DEALER ACTION

DEALERS ARE TO INSTALL THE TWO (2) CAM BOLTS PER VEHICLE AS DIRECTED IN THE SERVICE PROCEDURE IN THIS BULLETIN.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. RAISE VEHICLE SO THAT FRONT SUSPENSION IS ALLOWED TO HANG FREE.

2. REMOVE RIGHT FRONT TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY.

3. REMOVE LOWER STANDARD BOLT NUT FASTENER LABELED "A" IN ILLUSTRATION.

4. INSTALL CAM BOLT, PART NUMBER 14021424, USING ORIGINAL NUT AND WASHER. TORQUE NUT TO 190 NEWTON METRES (140 FT.LBS.) 5. REINSTALL TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY. TORQUE LUG NUTS TO 140 NEWTON METRES (103 FT.LBS.).

6. REPEAT STEPS 2 THROUGH 5 ON LEFT SIDE.

7. LOWER VEHICLE.

ENCLOSED WITH YOUR COPY OF THIS LETTER ARE THE FOLLOWING:

A LIST OF THOSE VEHICLES INVOLVED WHICH OUR RECORDS INDICATE HAVE BEEN SHIPPED TO YOUR DEALERSHIP IS ATTACHED. ADVISE THE ZONE IF ANY OF THE VEHICLES APPEARING ON THE ATTACHED LIST ARE NOT IN YOUR AREA. ANY DEALER NOT RECEIVING A COMPUTER LISTING WITH THE MODIFICATION BULLETIN WAS NOT SHIPPED ANY INVOLVED VEHICLES.

IF A VEHICLE HAS BEEN TRANSFERRED TO ANOTHER LOCATION, PLEASE FORWARD THE DETAILS OF THE TRANSFER TO YOUR PONTIAC ZONE OFFICE.

PARTS INFORMATION

EACH DEALER WILL RECEIVE TWO (2) CAM BOLTS PER VEHICLE FOR EACH VEHICLE ON THEIR V.I.N. LIST.

RECORDING COMPLETION

MODIFICATION COMPLETION WILL BE RECORDED FROM PROPERLY COMPLETED AND PAID WARRANTY CLAIMS.

DEALERS SHOULD STILL SUBMIT WARRANTY CLAIMS FOR CREDIT IN THEIR NORMAL MANNER AS FOLLOWS:

(NOTICE: A COMPLETED WARRANTY CLAIM IS TO BE KEPT AS A PERMANENT RECORD OF COMPLETION.)

WARRANTY CREDIT

A SEPARATE REPAIR ORDER MUST BE USED FOR EACH VIN.

(LABOR)

THE NEW LABOR OPERATION LISTED BELOW IS ASSIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS MODIFICATION.

LABOR TROUBLE TIME DESCRIPTION OPERATION CODE

INSTALL CAM BOLT E820100 96 0.5 HOUR

IN ADDITION, DEALERS WILL AUTOMATICALLY RECEIVE 0.1 HOURS CREDIT FOR DEALER ADMINISTRATIVE DETAIL ASSOCIATED WITH THIS MODIFICATION.

TROUBLE CODE 96 MUST BE USED WITH THE LABOR OPERATION.

(PARTS)

THE NEXESSARY CAM BOLTS (2 PER VEHICLE) WILL BE FORWARDED TO DEALERS NO CHARGE; THEREFORE, PARTS NUMBERS ARE NOT TO BE LISTED ON THE WARRANTY CLAIM. LIST ONLY THE APPLICABLE AMOUNT SHOWN BELOW UNDER THE NET ITEM COLUMN.

MATERIAL - $0.70 NET AMOUNT CODE - M

THIS REPRESENTS 30% OF THE DEALER PRICE OF THE FURNISHED SERVICE PARTS.

(CREDITING)

DEALERS WILL BE CREDITED VIA WARRANTY DOCUMENT OR TERMINAL TRANSMISSION, WHICHEVER IS THEIR NORMAL METHOD OF SUBMISSION FOR PAYMENT. CLAIMS SHOULD BE CLAIM TYPE 01, CONTAINING ALL INFORMATION REQUIRED FOR A REGULAR CLAIM, AND SHOULD LIST THE LABOR OPERATION AS OUTLINED ABOVE.

REPAIRS SUBMITTED FOR VEHICLES NOT INVOLVED IN THIS MODIFICATION WILL NOT BE PAID.
