FLOOR PAN REPLACEMENT 1980-1981 PHOENIX

When replacing a floor pan on a 1980-81 Phoenix with Part Number 20455729, it is necessary to rework the pan because it does not have mounting provisions for the rack and pinion steering assembly.

During this operation, the front reinforcement (#l bar) and the rocker inner panels should not be removed from the vehicle.

Prior to installation, the front reinforcement and the rocker inner panels must be removed and discarded from the replacement assembly. This can be accomplished by drilling out the spot welds.

The replacement pan at the rear is installed to the original joint area. At the front, predetermine a cut line and cut front edge so there is at least a 3" overlap of the original pan.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
