HARD/NO START HOT FUEL STARVATION AT HIGH ALTITUDES

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1982-85 'A' and 'X' Cars with 2.8L LE2 Engine (VIN Code 'X')

In high altitude areas with high ambient temperatures, some 'A-X' cars may experience a no start condition after a short soak (10-45 minutes). Other vehicles may start and then stop running immediately thereafter. These vehicles will not restart until the engine has cooled down. This condition may be caused by fuel starvation (vapour lock) and can be corrected by installing Electric Fuel Pump Kit, P/N 14094438. This kit utilizes a low pressure 20.7 kPa (3 psi) electric in-tank pump.

Included with the kit are detailed instruction sheets for installing all parts found in the kit. In addition to installing the kit, the float level in the carburetor should be adjusted to compensate for the change in fuel pressure caused by the addition of the in-tank electric puinp. Use procedures found in Section 6C3 of the shop manual to adjust the float levels. Float levels for 1983, 1984 and 1985 vehicles should be reset to 6.5 mm (1/4 inch). Float levels for 1982 vehicles should be reset to 9.5mm (3/8 inch).
