In order to clarify the procedure concerning drive pin looseness and housing bore groove depth, Pontiac is providing a supplement for page 3 (Step 12) of Dealer Service Management Bulletin 84-SM-35 Reissue.
The reverse side of this bulletin provides a replacement for page 3.
Please attach this supplement to all existing copies of the bulletin. Also, be aware of this change while viewing the training video tape previously sent to your dealership.

11. Remove valve body rings from pinion and valve assembly.
Use care when removing rings from valve assembly to prevent damage to valve assembly.
12. Thoroughly clean valve assembly ring grooves.

Inspect pinion and valve assembly for broken drive pin. If broken drive pin is found, replace the gear assembly.
Use the same Housing and Valve Assembly regardless of depth of grooves in housing bore.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
