1987-88 VEHICLES
Second owners of 1987 and 1988 Pontiacs may receive a letter from General Motors informing them that they are eligible to transfer the remaining 6/60 Powertrain Coverage by paying a $100.00 fee.
It is quite possible that some of these owners may have been refused warranty coverage on a previous powertrain failure because they had not transferred the coverage and the 90 day transfer eligibility period had elapsed before the time of the failure.
These owners will be entitled to receive a refund for the previous repair that was not covered if they transfer the remaining coverage as a result of the above mentioned letter.
Dealers should handle refunds in the following manner:
1. Complete the Owner Reimbursement Form (Form 7201-039) including necessary approvals.
2. Obtain photocopies of both the completed Transfer Application (application is included with the letter that was sent to the second owner) and the owner's $100.00 check (payable to General Motors Corporation).
3. If the owner has already mailed in the transfer application and check for the transfer fee, refunds can not be issued until the ownership can be verified through VISS (Vehicle Information Service System) or a photocopy of the Warranty Transfer Card the owner receives when transferring the warranty.
4. Forward the Owner Reimbursement Form, the photocopy of the Warranty Transfer Card or the photocopies of the check and Transfer Application, and the CUSTOMER'S ORIGINAL REPAIR RECEIPTS to the Zone Office for processing.
Providing the above documentation is in order, the Zone Office will process the reimbursement in the normal manner.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
