Removal Procedure
- Remove the tire and wheel assemblies as needed. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
.
- Loosen, do not remove, the steering linkage outer tie rod nut (2) from the steering linkage outer tie rod end (1).
- Install
J-42188-B
between the steering knuckle and the steering linkage outer tie rod (1).
- Tighten the nut on
J-42188-B
until the steering knuckle and the steering linkage outer tie rod (1) separate.
- Remove
J-42188-B
and the steering linkage outer tie rod nut (2).
- Loosen the steering linkage inner tie rod nut (2) on the steering linkage inner tie rod (1).
- Remove the steering linkage outer tie rod nut (3) and the steering linkage outer tie rod (5) from the steering knuckle (4).
Important: Count the number of full rotations taken to remove the steering linkage outer tie rod from the steering linkage inner tie rod. This will assist in the installation and toe adjustments.
- Remove the steering linkage outer tie rod (5) from the steering linkage inner tie rod (1).
Installation Procedure
Important: Install the steering linkage outer tie rod the same number of full rotations counted when removing.
- Install the steering linkage outer tie rod (5) to the steering linkage inner tie rod (1). Do not tighten the steering linkage inner tie rod nut.
- Install the steering linkage outer tie rod (5) to the steering knuckle (4).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the steering linkage outer tie rod nut (3) to the steering linkage outer tie rod (5).
Tighten
Tighten to 30 N·m (22 lb ft) plus an additional 115 degrees.
- Tighten the steering linkage inner tie rod nut (2).
- Install the tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
.
- Adjust the wheel toe. Refer to
Front Toe Adjustment
