Catalytic Converter Replacement LE5

Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 1593131 Size: SH
  1. Open the hood.
  2. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts and shield.

    3. Object Number: 1592527 Size: SH
  3. Remove the catalytic converter to exhaust manifold nuts (1).

    4. Object Number: 1592538 Size: SH
  4. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer.
  5. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (3) from the position 2 heated oxygen sensor (HO2S).
  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

  7. Remove the catalytic converter to catalytic converter brace bracket bolt.

    8. Object Number: 1593749 Size: SH
  8. Remove the catalytic converter to muffler nuts.
  9. Separate the exhaust pipe from the catalytic converter studs.
  10. Position and support the exhaust pipe out of the way.

    11. Object Number: 1592527 Size: SH
  11. Remove the catalytic converter and gasket (2).

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1592527 Size: SH
  1. Install the catalytic converter along with a NEW gasket (2) to the exhaust manifold.

    2. Object Number: 1593749 Size: SH
  2. Position and join the exhaust pipe to the catalytic converter studs.
  3. Loosely install the catalytic converter to muffler nuts.

    4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1592529 Size: SH
  4. Install the catalytic converter to catalytic converter brace bracket bolt.

    5. Tighten

        • Tighten the catalytic converter to muffler nuts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).
        • Tighten the catalytic converter to catalytic converter brace bracket bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
  5. Lower the vehicle

    6. Object Number: 1592538 Size: SH
  6. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (3) to the position 2 HO2S.
  7. Install the CPA retainer.

    8. Object Number: 1592527 Size: SH
  8. Install the catalytic converter to exhaust manifold nuts (1).

    9. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).


    Object Number: 1593131 Size: SH
  9. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield and bolts.

    10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  10. Close the hood.

Catalytic Converter Replacement LNF

Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 1750397 Size: SH
  1. Open the hood.
  2. Remove the turbocharger heat shield bolts (1) and shield.
  3. Remove the position 1 heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor 1 Replacement .

    4. Object Number: 1827025 Size: SH
  4. Remove the catalytic converter to turbocharger nuts (2).

    5. Object Number: 1828158 Size: SH
  5. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer.
  6. Disconnect the position 2 HO2S electrical connector (4) from the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2).
  7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

  8. Remove the catalytic converter to muffler nuts.
  9. Separate the exhaust pipe from the catalytic converter studs.
  10. Position and support the exhaust pipe out of the way.

    11. Object Number: 1717062 Size: SH
  11. Loosen, DO NOT REMOVE the driver side engine mount to frame lower nut.

    12. Object Number: 1717066 Size: SH
  12. Remove the passenger side engine mount to frame lower nut.
  13. Place an adjustable jack and a block of wood under the oil pan. Using the adjustable jack, raise the oil pan slightly.

    14. Object Number: 1827024 Size: SH
  14. Remove the catalytic converter to catalytic converter bracket bolts.
  15. Reposition the catalytic converter out of the way.

    16. Object Number: 1750403 Size: SH
  16. Remove the catalytic converter bracket bolt and nut.
  17. Remove the catalytic converter bracket.

    18. Object Number: 1827025 Size: SH
  18. Rotate and remove the catalytic converter (3).
  19. Remove and discard the catalytic converter gasket (2).

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1827025 Size: SH
  1. Install a NEW catalytic converter gasket (2) onto the turbocharger studs.
  2. Install, rotate, and position the catalytic converter (3).

    3. Object Number: 1750403 Size: SH
  3. Position the catalytic converter bracket to the engine block.

    4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the catalytic converter bracket bolt and nut.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt/nut to 58 N·m (43 lb ft).

  5. Install the catalytic converter onto the turbocharger studs.

    6. Object Number: 1827024 Size: SH
  6. Install the catalytic converter to catalytic converter bracket bolts.

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  7. Using the adjustable jack, lower the oil pan.

    8. Object Number: 1717066 Size: SH
  8. Install the passenger side engine mount to frame lower nut.

    9. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 55 N·m (41 lb ft).


    Object Number: 1717062 Size: SH
  9. Tighten the driver side engine mount to frame lower nut.

    10. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 55 N·m (41 lb ft).


    Object Number: 1828146 Size: SH
  10. Position and install the exhaust pipe to the catalytic converter studs.
  11. Install the catalytic converter to muffler nuts.

    12. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).


    Object Number: 1828158 Size: SH
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Connect the position 2 HO2S electrical connector (4) to the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2).
  14. Install the CPA retainer.

    15. Object Number: 1827025 Size: SH
  15. Install the catalytic converter to turbocharger nuts (2).

    16. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 58 N·m (43 lb ft).


    Object Number: 1750397 Size: SH
  16. Install the position 1 HO2S. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor 1 Replacement .
  17. Install the turbocharger heat shield and bolts (1).

    18. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  18. Close the hood.

Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 1750397 Size: SH
  1. Open the hood.
  2. Remove the turbocharger heat shield bolts (1) and shield.
  3. Remove the position 1 heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor 1 Replacement .

  4. Remove the catalytic converter to turbocharger nuts (2).

    5. Object Number: 1828158 Size: SH
  5. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer.
  6. Disconnect the position 2 HO2S electrical connector (4) from the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2).
  7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

  8. Remove the catalytic converter to muffler nuts.
  9. Separate the exhaust pipe from the catalytic converter studs.
  10. Position and support the exhaust pipe out of the way.

    11. Object Number: 1717062 Size: SH
  11. Loosen, DO NOT REMOVE the driver side engine mount to frame lower nut.

    12. Object Number: 1717066 Size: SH
  12. Remove the passenger side engine mount to frame lower nut.
  13. Place an adjustable jack and a block of wood under the oil pan. Using the adjustable jack, raise the oil pan slightly.

  14. Remove the catalytic converter to catalytic converter bracket bolts.
  15. Reposition the catalytic converter out of the way.

  16. Remove the catalytic converter bracket bolt and nut.
  17. Remove the catalytic converter bracket.

    18. Object Number: 1827025 Size: SH
  18. Rotate and remove the catalytic converter (3).
  19. Remove and discard the catalytic converter gasket (2).

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1827025 Size: SH
  1. Install a NEW catalytic converter gasket (2) onto the turbocharger studs.
  2. Install, rotate, and position the catalytic converter (3).

    3. Object Number: 1750403 Size: SH
  3. Position the catalytic converter bracket to the engine block.

    4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the catalytic converter bracket bolt and nut.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt/nut to 58 N·m (43 lb ft).

  5. Install the catalytic converter onto the turbocharger studs.

    6. Object Number: 1827024 Size: SH
  6. Install the catalytic converter to catalytic converter bracket bolts.

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  7. Using the adjustable jack, lower the oil pan.

    8. Object Number: 1717066 Size: SH
  8. Install the passenger side engine mount to frame lower nut.

    9. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 55 N·m (41 lb ft).


    Object Number: 1717062 Size: SH
  9. Tighten the driver side engine mount to frame lower nut.

    10. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 55 N·m (41 lb ft).


    Object Number: 1828146 Size: SH
  10. Position and install the exhaust pipe to the catalytic converter studs.
  11. Install the catalytic converter to muffler nuts.

    12. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).


    Object Number: 1828158 Size: SH
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Connect the position 2 HO2S electrical connector (4) to the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2).
  14. Install the CPA retainer.

    15. Object Number: 1827025 Size: SH
  15. Install the catalytic converter to turbocharger nuts (2).

    16. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 58 N·m (43 lb ft).


    Object Number: 1750397 Size: SH
  16. Install the position 1 HO2S. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor 1 Replacement .
  17. Install the turbocharger heat shield and bolts (1).

    18. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  18. Close the hood.
