Preliminary Procedure

Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .

Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel (I/P) Module Bolt/Screw (Qty: 2)

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

Procedure

  1. Open the I/P storage compartment to access the inflator bolts.
  2. If a gap condition exists, DO NOT replace the module.
  3. This is an appearance issue only and has no effect on air bag performance.

    2.1. Gently pry the cover up to expose the deformed snap tab.
    2.2. Use a nylon trim tool to deflect the snap to engage the trim edge.
    2.3. Press down on the cover to seat.

Tighten
10 N·m (89 lb in)

Procedure

  1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  2. After replacing the module, deploy the old module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping .
