Service Update for Inventory Vehicles Only-Exhaust Camshaft-Expires February 28, 2007

THIS SERVICE UPDATE INVOLVES VEHICLES IN DEALER/RETAILER INVENTORY ONLY AND WILL EXPIRE FEBRUARY 28, 2007.

This bulletin provides a service procedure to inspect and, if necessary, replace the exhaust camshaft on certain 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP and Saturn Sky Red Line vehicles equipped with a 2.0L (RPO LNF -VIN X) engine. The exhaust camshaft in certain 2.0L engines may not meet the minimum hardness specification, which could result in premature wear, resulting in engine performance or misfire complaints.

This service procedure should be completed on involved vehicles currently in dealership/retailer inventory as soon as possible, but no later than February 28, 2007 , at which time this bulletin will expire.

A list of involved vehicles currently in dealer/retailer inventory is included in this bulletin and in the Administrative Message used to release this bulletin.

Important: Dealers/retailers are to confirm vehicle eligibility prior to beginning repairs by using the system(s) below.

-- GM dealers should use GMVIS.

-- US Saturn retailers should use the AS/400 system.

Parts required to complete this service update are to be obtained from General Motors Service and Parts Operations (GMSPO). Please refer to your "involved vehicles listing" before ordering parts. Normal orders should be placed on a DRO = Daily Replenishment Order. In an emergency situation, parts should be ordered on a CSO = Customer Special Order.

Parts required to complete this service update by involved Saturn US retailers are to be obtained from Saturn Service Parts Operations (SSPO).

1. Open hood.



2. Inspect Cylinder Head Assembly date code.

•	If date code is 346 or lower, no additional inspection or repairs are needed.

•	If date code is 347 or greater, proceed to step 3 to remove the cam cover and inspect exhaust cam shaft date code.

Important: The Camshaft Cover Gasket is re-useable. Inspect for any cuts or damage to the sealing surface of the gasket prior to re-using the gasket.

3. Remove the engine Camshaft Cover Assembly. Refer to Camshaft Cover Replacement 2.0L in SI for removal and installation instructions.




Important: Use a mirror to read the Camshaft code if it is difficult to see. In some cases, it may be necessary to rotate the Camshaft to see the code. If this is needed, rotate the crankshaft by hand to bring the Camshaft code into view.

4. Inspect Exhaust Camshaft code.

•	If the Exhaust Camshaft has any code other than 6M 06, M6 15 or M6 21 , no further inspection or repair is needed. Re-install the Camshaft Cover Assembly following the service procedures in SI.

•	If the Exhaust Camshaft has a code of 6M 06, M6 15 or 6M 21 , the Exhaust Camshaft needs to be replaced. Proceed to Step 5.

5. Replace the Exhaust Camshaft Assembly. Refer to Exhaust Camshaft and Lifter Replacement 2.0L in SI for removal and installation instructions.
