location of the leak. In some cases you can easily locate the leak. Seepage-type
leaks may be more difficult to isolate. Use the following method in order
to locate the seepage leaks:
- Wipe dry the entire power steering system with the engine OFF.
- Inspect the fluid level in the pump reservoir.
- Add fluid to the reservoir, if necessary. Refer to
Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid
.
- Start the engine.
Notice: Do not hold the steering wheel in the full turn position
longer than 5 seconds, as damage to the steering pump may result.
- Have an assistant operate the steering wheel while you search for the
seepage. Turn the steering wheel from stop to stop several times. Do not hold
the steering wheel at a stop for any length of time. This can damage the
power steering pump
- Locate the exact area of the leak.
- Repair the leak.
