The power steering pump is a vane-type pump. The V-ribbed belt, coming from the crankshaft pulley, drives the power steering pump.
As the discharge rate of the power steering pump increases in proportion to the pump revolution speed the power steering pump utilizes a flow control valve (11). The flow control valve (11) controls the maximum amount of the fluid needed for the steering operation. Within the flow control valve (11) is a pressure relief valve (9). The pressure relief valve (9) controls the maximum amount of fluid pressure that is supplied to the power steering gear.
